Description:

Manufactured in the mid-19th century, this Deane & Sons retailed Beaumont-Adams revolver bears serial number 40570, which falls right in between two known very closely numbered engraved presentation Beaumont-Adams revolvers, one being number 40568 presented to Confederate President Jefferson Davis (reference RIAC Auction 88 Lot 1190) and the other being 40573 presented by maker Robert Adams to Confederate General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson (reference Catalog No. 0985.13.00120a in the American Civil War Museum of Richmond, Virginia). Whether or not this example was presented to anyone is unknown at the time of writing. Features a dovetail mounted blade front sight, integral notch rear sight at the top rear of the frame, London proof and view marks on the upper left of the barrel and in between the cylinder nipples, with retailer marking "DEANE & SON. LONDON BRIDGE" marked on the top strap, a sliding safety on the right, "ADAMS PATENT No 40570" on the right side of the frame, matching "No 40570" on the cylinder, and a checkered walnut grip. Includes a felt lined custom case with a blank shield plaque on the lid and reproduction Deane & Sons trade label inside, containing a copper powder flask, ball mold marked "54" (54 bore/.442 caliber) on the sprue cutter, Eley cap tin, oiler, cleaning rod, screwdriver and nipple tool.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 60% plus original blue finish with areas of smooth brown patina on the balance, scattered patches of light oxidation and pitting, with sharp markings. Grip is also fine with a few nicks in the otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically fine. Case is very good as custom made, with a mild crack visible at the front area of the lid, and some minor edge wear on the relined interior.
