Description:

Manufactured c.mid-19th century, this finely engraved British percussion revolver is based on Robert Adam's 1851 design improved by Lt. Frederick E.B. Beaumont in 1855. Beaumont's contributions allowed the revolver to be used in single or double action instead of just double action like the original Adams design and became very popular, ultimately helping to force the closure of Samuel Colt's London factory. These revolvers were among the few double action revolvers available during the American Civil War. "I. & W. WOOD. 74 KING STT MANCHESTER" is marked across the top strap and onto the barrel. London proof marks are on the barrel and cylinder. The right side of the frame has "B18,373/ADAMS PATENT 34120.R", and "No. 34120./R." is also marked on the cylinder. There are engraved borders as well as engraved scrollwork, and the grip is finely checkered. The revolver comes in a fitted oak case with green baize lining, a 120 bore marked Adams ball/bullet mold, nipple wrench, cleaning rod, oiler, small powder flask, screwdriver, Eley cap tin, and key. Provenance: The Cam & Deb Cooper Collection

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine with crisp engraving and markings, 85% plus bright original high polish blue finish with fading mainly on the trigger guard and pommel cap and smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, light scratches, and general mild handling and storage marks. The grip is also very fine and has minor handling and storage marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The exterior of the case is refinished, and the case is otherwise very good. The accessories are fine with age and storage related wear,
