Manufactured c. late 19th century. Built with brown Damascus steel barrels featuring a single bead sight on the concave solid rib which is marked "L. SCHMEISSER. JENA." in gold, dual gold bands at the breech, front sling swivel, and chambers measured 2 1/2 inches with a single extractor. The barrels are fitted to the casehardened underlever back action which displays near full coverage scroll engraving surrounding seven relief cut and game scenes consisting of a dog on the left lockplate, a hare on the left of the action, a pointer on the underside, two pheasant cocks on the right of the action, a fox on the right lockplate, a hare on the upper tang, and a roe buck on the triggerguard bow, all of which are encompassed by gold line borders. The gun features dual triggers and rebounding hammers. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and vine carved straight grip stock with raised cheekpiece, rear sling swivel, and a checkered steel buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .709/.705 inches; choke constriction .000/.000 inches; minimum wall thickness .027/.030 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 14 1/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 14 oz.

Very fine, retaining nearly all of the original brown finish with strong Damascus patterns, some minor flaking of the gold along with some fading, some original case colors in the protected areas, some dried grease on the action/locks, some oxidation on the sling swivels, and crisp carving on the stock. Mechanically excellent.
