Description:

By the mid to late 19th century, canes had reached the pinnacle of their popularity, permeating nearly every strata of society. This example appears to be from around the middle of the century, with its patriotic theme indicating that it was quite possibly made around the time of the Civil War or one of the conflicts of the early 20th century. The grip of this example is made of a section of horn which is plugged with a pearl disc. below the grip is a 6 5/8 inch section of the shaft which is made of a very nicely figured piece of wood and has a scrimshawed eagle with its wings spread. The shaft below that is more standard figure malacca with a black spacer and iron tip. It measures approximately 36 inches overall.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the grip showing some minor handling marks and mild wear, and the shaft has moderate crazing of the varnish throughout and some minor handling marks.
