Description:

Manufactured c. mid 1945, as one of the last U.S. Colt M1911A1 pistols marked with Brig. Gen. Guy H. Drewry's "G.H.D." inspection stamp on the frame. The table on page 404 of "Colt .45 Service Pistols" (1991 publication) by Charles W. Clawson shows this pistol falling within the ranges of shipments sent to the U.S. Springfield Armory between July 9 and August 10, 1945. Features fixed sights, a blued barrel marked "COLT 45 AUTO" on the left of the chamber and "P" on the left of the recoil lug, standard two-line, two-block address and patent dates surrounding a Rampant Colt on the left of the slide with "P" stamped on top, along with a checkered thumb safety, replacement slide stop, narrow spur hammer, short stamped trigger, and a seven-rib serrated arched mainspring housing. The left of the frame bears the "G.H.D." inspector and "P" stamp. The right side bears the U.S. property marking, model designation, serial number, and "ordnance wheel" acceptance stamp. The left of the trigger guard is marked with "V" over "triangle/VP", with "56" marked on the right side. Fitted with a pair of brown checkered plastic 'Coltwood' grips and a replacement two-tone blued magazine marked "R" on the toe.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished, retaining 95% arsenal parkerizing on the frame and slide, along with 97% blue finish on the barrel with some minor cycling wear, some light handling marks visible under the finish, some softened markings, some minor edge wear, and some minor handling marks. The grips are also very fine with a few light handling marks in the otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
