Description:

This exceptional civilian Colt Model 1860 Army revolver was manufactured in 1863. The frame is cut for a shoulder stock and has the slightly protruding fourth screws on the sides, with a notch in the heel of the butt of the backstrap. A "1" suffix is stamped above and below the main serial numbers on the barrel and frame, as seen on some other civilian Colt 1860 Army revolvers close in serial range (reference pages 282-283 of the book "The Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver" by Charles W. Pate). Two-line "COLTS/PATENT" marking on the left of the frame, the cylinder is roll-engraved with the Naval Battle of Campeche scene, one-line legend "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" roll-stamped on top of the barrel, "2" marked on the left side of the trigger guard bow, "44 CAL" marked on the rear left side of the trigger guard, with full and partial matching serial numbers marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt, wedge, cylinder, cylinder pin, and correctly handwritten in black ink inside the grip channel.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, retains 70% plus original blue finish with smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, 85% vivid original case colors, strong traces of original silver plating visible in protected areas of the trigger guard with attractive bright golden patina on the balance of the exposed brass, retaining all of the cylinder safety pins with sharp cylinder scene, markings and edges in the metal overall. Grip is very fine with most of the original piano varnish finish, a few scattered light dings, distinct edges and tight fitment. Mechanically excellent.
