Description:

Based on the "*/IW" maker's mark between the Birmingham "private proofs" on the left, these pistols have been attributed to John Waters who worked in Birmingham c. 1767-1781 and is a known maker of plainer "Scottish" pistols for the enlisted men of the Highland regiments of the British Royal Army. They were notably the only units to issue pistols to the rank and file. The pistols feature the distinctive “Scottish lock” which is very much like a standard flintlock but with a lateral half-cock sear that extends through the lock plate and engages the cock. A belt hook if fitted to the left. The pistols have "gunmetal" stocks with "fishtail" butts. They come in a custom fitted case.

Rating Definition:

Good with mottled gray and brown patina and pitting on the lock and barrel, replacement cock screw, attractively aged patina on the stock, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine. The case is very good with minor age and storage related wear.
