Description:

With a frame manufactured c. 1918-1919, this U.S. Colt Model 1911 pistol lacks a serial number, proofs, or government acceptance markings, indicating that it is likely a production sample. This example is made up from components that were fairly far along in the manufacturing process, with the slide bearing the two-line, two-block patent dates and address roll-marks surrounding a Rampant Colt logo along with a U.S. property marking on the right side of the frame (both features that were changed to during 1918 production as discussed on pages 150-151 of "U.S. Military Automatic Pistols: 1894-1920" by Meadows). Features fixed oval blade front and square notch rear sights, the aforementioned roll-marks on the left of the slide with a small "H" in the hammer recess and model designation on the right side, a blued barrel marked "S/P" on the left of the recoil lug, the aforementioned U.S. property marking on the right of the frame, a smooth long trigger, short grip safety, flat mainspring housing with a lanyard loop on the bottom, along with checkered slide catch, magazine release, and thumb safety. "A" is stamped on the interior of the slide, along with "H/Q" stamped on top of the frame around the disconnector. Fitted with a pair of 'double diamond' checkered walnut grips and an unmarked two-tone blued magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored, retaining 90% plus blue finish with some limited minor edge wear, some light cycling wear on the barrel, some minor handling marks visible under the finish, some minor freckling/brown discoloration showing on the slide, and minor handling wear. The grips are also very fine with some light compression marks in the otherwise well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent. Overall a very attractive example of an unserialized U.S. Colt Model 1911 pistol!
