Description:

Manufactured in 1942, per the date marking on the left of the breech. This is a desirable example of a Yoder Co. manufactured U.S. M1 57mm anti-tank gun with carriage. Over 15,000 of these were reportedly manufactured for the war effort between 1942-1945. These more powerful 57mm M1 anti-tank guns were intended as the replacement for the previous M3 37mm anti-tank gun due to rapid improvements in enemy tank armor, and saw effective use in the European Theater. The caliber, model, serial number, manufacturer, date, 752 pound weight and inspector marking "R.W.J." are marked on the left of the breech. Includes a scope mounted on the carriage. Absent lower splinter shield on the front of the carriage. The tube measures approximately 120 inches overall, with a 112 inch inside bore length, with overall measurements including the carriage approximately 216 inches long by 76 inches wide by 53 inches tall.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall, with most of the applied green painted finish, with light pitting visible underneath, and a few areas of minor flaking and handling marks. Elevation mechanism is fine. To elevate or depress the barrel, the trails must be spread. Returning the barrel to its "home" position and closing the trails allows for transport of the gun. The trigger mechanism is disconnected with a few absent small parts, otherwise the breech block mechanically cycles. Scope is fine with clear optics. NOTE: This Destructive Device is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479, National Firearms Act.
