Description:

This is a very nice example of a German MP28 II type SMG that was manufactured using an original set of MP28 parts mated to a newly manufactured receiver by Charles Erb in Penn. It is a straight blow-back type weapon firing the standard 9 mm Luger cartridge. It has a heavy tubular receiver and barrel jacket with a heavy round bolt with a fixed firing pin. The MP28 was developed in 1928 as a redesign of the original MP18 submachine gun and used a 20 or 30 round stick magazine in lieu of the Luger drum magazine. This change required a new magazine housing, hence the model number change, from MP18 to MP28. Both models were heavily restricted under the Treaty of Versailles, so most were actually manufactured by the SIG factory in Switzerland or the Pieper factory in Belgium. The magazine housing is stamped: "M.P.28.II./SYSTEM/SCHMEISSER/PATENT/2625". The lower left rear side of the receiver is stamped with the bullet logo of the Charles Erb company in Fredrickstown, PA. The receiver and barrel jacket are fitted with a fixed blade front sight and an adjustable tangent rear sight (graduated from 100 to 1,000 meters). It has a one-piece walnut stock with finger grooves on the sides and a flat stamped steel buttplate. It has matching serial number on the magazine housing bolt and receiver. The underside of the walnut stock is stamped with serial number "15401". Includes six stick magazines total: four 20-round magazines, one 32-round magazine, and one rare 50-round magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as manufactured, with 90% of the blue finish overall, some blue loss on the rear section of the perforated barrel jacket, and some light speckling the outside of the receiver. The walnut stock is very good with a nice original medium brown color overall showing light handling marks and some pressure dents on the sides from actual field use. Mechanically excellent. A very nice looking, classic MP 28 II type submachine gun! NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
