Description:

Manufactured in 1918, the Winchester Model 1873 is known as one of the guns that "won the west" and was popularly paired with a Colt Single Action Army revolver in the same caliber, remaining popular in the American West well into the 20th century. This late production Model 1873 is a third model, with the integral dust cover rail and dust cover with gripping serrations at the rear of the dust cover. The upper left barrel flat is marked with the two-line address/King's patent marking and the caliber is marked at the breech. The caliber marking is repeated on the bottom of the cartridge elevator, serial number is on the lower tang, and the three-line model and trademark information is on the upper tang. It is fitted with a blade front sight with period added blade and an elevation adjustable notch rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a trapdoor crescent buttplate containing an included four-piece cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 60% plus of the thinned original blue finish with the balance mostly a smooth brown patina. The lightly sanded and revarnished wood is also fine with a few scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
