Desirable Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Saddle Ring Trapper's Carbine with 15 Inch Barrel and ATF Exemption Letter

Manufactured in 1917, this is a desirable example of a Winchester Model 1894 "Trapper's" carbine with a desirable 15 inch barrel. These handy little short barreled carbines were highly regarded in the rugged environment of the American West well into the 20th century. These small carbines were very useful for anyone looking to pack a powerful punch in a small, easy to carry package. An included ATF exemption letter lists this carbine by serial number as being removed from the provisions of the NFA and listed as a "C&R Firearm". There are Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The left of the barrel is marked with the model, trademark, nickel steel, and caliber markings, while the right has the standard two-line address. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model and trademark information, and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a pinned blade front sight, folding ladder rear sight, and a saddle ring on the left of the receiver. It is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and smooth, straight grip, gumwood stock with a carbine buttplate.

ConditionVery good, retains 60% of the original blue finish on the barrel and 90% of the blue finish on the replacement magazine tube with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina. The reoiled wood is also very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
