Rare British Combination Pinfire Pepperbox Revolver/Stiletto Cane Gun

This fascinating mid to late 19th century cane conceals a powerful surprise: a six-shot pepperbox revolver and a 4 1/4 inch long fixed stiletto blade attached to the horn grip. The folding trigger helps provide tension to secure the weapon into the shaft. The cylinder has alternating London proof marks and is loaded via a hinged loading gate. The shaft is 32 1/4 inches long, and the overall length is 34 1/8 inches. We have seen few other examples, one marked "BRIGG LONDON." Aside from the proof marks, this example is unmarked. It is being de-accessioned from the famous George F. Harding Jr. Collection at the Art Institute of Chicago (reference number:1982.2956a-b). Provenance: The George F. Harding Jr. Collection; The Art Institute of Chicago

ConditionVery fine with mostly bright period nickel plated finish on the pepperbox and stiletto, aged patina on the cane mounts, minor flaking and wear to the shaft, and generally fairly light overall wear. Mechanically functions.
