Presentation Grade Clauberg U.S. Model 1850 Staff & Field Officer's Sword with Scabbard

Manufactured c. 1850-1872. This is an attractive gilt presentation grade Clauberg U.S. Model 1850 staff & field officer's sword with exceptional details throughout. The 32 1/4 inch lightly curved blade has gilt U.S. patriotic and martial etching including a battle scene on one side, and the Clauberg Solingen maker's mark is on the left ricasso, with etched "IRON: PROOF" on the spine. The pommel has a floral pattern, and twisted wire is wrapped around the shagreen grip. The iron scabbard has a brown finish with gilt bronze mounts with detailed raised martial motifs. ConditionFine overall, exhibiting a mostly bright appearance on the blade with 80% of the original bright gold, some freckling and light pitting towards the tip, crisp etching, much of the original gilt finish on the hilt, and 75% plus original brown finish on the scabbard with some patches of light pitting, and most of the original gilt on its mounts.
