Very Scarce Antique U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Bolt Action Saddle Ring Carbine

Manufactured in 1898, as one of reportedly 5,000 Model 1898 Krag carbines produced by the U.S. Springfield Armory, mixed in with rifle production in a serial number range of 125,000 to 135,000, and the last model of U.S. martial arms equipped with a saddle ring. These variants are increasingly sought after by collectors today given their limited production and the scarcity of unaltered examples. Features a fixed blade front and "C" marked folding ladder rear sights, with the model marking, manufacturer marking, and serial number on the left side of the receiver. Fitted with a correct Model 1898 pattern walnut handguard and a correct carbine profile grasping groove walnut stock, marked with a "07" rack stamp on the right of the forearm, a boxed script "J.S.A./1898" inspection cartouche on the left of the wrist, and "T" over a circled script "P" firing proof on the wrist, with a left side mounted saddle ring. Includes a segmented cleaning rod and nickel plated oiler in the butt trap, along with a brass hang tag numbered "28".

ConditionVery good plus, retains 25% original blue finish with silvered patterns of original case colors, thinning on the balance with smooth grey patina along with a few minor patches of rough grey patina/spotting, and some light handling wear. The stock is fine as re-oiled with some minor scattered compression marks, clear inspector stamps, and crisp grasping grooves. Mechanically excellent.
