Highly Attractive British Proofed Colt Etched Panel New Line .38 Spur Trigger Revolver

Manufactured in 1879, this is a very fine example of Colt's New Line pocket revolver chambered in .38 centerfire that once made its way to Britain. These revolvers were intended, in part, to be a pocket sized version of the full-sized Colt Single Action Army, which was introduced at the same time, and would have been a popular, concealed sidearm in the urban environments of 19th century Britain. The top of the barrel has the two-line address, while the model and caliber marking is in the acid etched panel on the left. The matching serial number is marked on the left of the grip frame and bottom of the barrel along with the patent date. The left of the frame is marked "38CAL C". The assembly number "623" is on the right of the grip frame and front face of the loading gate. There are British proofs on the barrel and cylinder. It has standard features including a pair of smooth rosewood grips. Provenance: The Charles Marx Collection

ConditionVery fine, retains 75% plus of the original blue finish and 80% plus of the vibrant original case colors with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina and a few scattered small patches of light surface spotting. The grips are also very fine with a minor chip absent from the top of the left panel and otherwise light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
