Scarce Framed Colt Repeating Pistols "Directions For Cleaning" Broadside

Made c. 1851 to 1860, this is a very scarce broadside produced by Colt's Patent Firearms Co., examples of which were likely made available to anyone buying one of Colt's revolvers and also was likely included in cased sets. Towards the bottom of the piece three revolvers are mentioned, the "Army Pistol", "Belt Pistol", and "Pocket Pistol", which are believed to be referring to the Dragoon, Model 1851 Navy, and Model 1849 Pocket respectively. Given that the "Army Pistol" is not referred to as "New Model", it is believed that this piece was produced prior to the introduction of the Model 1860 Army. The piece provides detailed, step-by-step instructions for disassembling these revolvers, cleaning, oiling, and maintaining, as well as reassembling and loading. The text is printed in black on blue paper. The consignor notes that this piece will be featured in the upcoming book about the Colt Dragoon revolver by Charles Pate. The document itself measures approximately 8 x 10 inches and is professionally matted and framed. The frame measures 14 3/8 x 11 3/8 inches.

ConditionFine, retaining nice color to the paper and distinct text with some light fading, a dark stain in the lower left, some scattered spotting, and a few light fold creases. The frame is very fine with some scattered light handling/storage marks. This is an extremely rare piece of ephemera that will not be found in even the most extensive Colt collections!
