The Model 1895 was the first lever action rifle offered by Winchester with a non-detachable box magazine. Only around 5000 of the First Model were produced before the Second Model with its more common contoured receiver was introduced and of those number, the 38-72 chambering was uncommon. This particular rifle was manufactured in 1895 and features a German silver dovetailed front blade sight and an adjustable rear sporting sight. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two line address ahead of the rear sight. Caliber designation is at the breech, patent dates behind the trigger guard, serial number on the lower tang and "WINCHESTER / MODEL 1895" on the upper tang. Smooth straight grip stock with ebony inlayed Schnabel forearm tip and smooth iron crescent buttplate.

Very good (with exception noted below), with 20% of the original blue finish. A pleasing brown and gray patina is forming on the surface with a few light scratches on the receiver and strong traces of the original blue in the protected areas. The lower tang has been filed around the tang screw. The stock is good with a thin crack running back from the lower tang and some moderate pressure dents. Superb action.
