Description:

This carbine was produced in 1888. The top of the barrel has the standard two line barrel marking behind the barrel band and is fitted with a raised blade front sight. The folding leaf sight is graduated to 10 and is marked "1886". It is too long for its placement and covers the caliber marking at the rear of the barrel. The top of the tang has the single line "--Model 1886--" marking, with the serial number and two line patent date on the lower tang. The left side of the receiver has the eye screw for the saddle ring. Smooth straight grip stock with metal tip on the full length forearm and a smooth carbine buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Good. Much of the barrel has turned a mottled gray/brown patina with some light spotting and dings and the lever has been chipped and dented. The frame retains traces of the original casehardening pattern along with some light scratches and pitting around the ring bolt. The stock has been cleaned and some chipping and cracking around the buttplate, receiver, and barrel band, and some mild scratches, dents, and varnish loss. The action is excellent.
