Description:

Marked "TIPPING & LAWDEN / SHARPS PATENT" on left side of frame around hammer screw. Except for the size and angle of the grip, the Model 3 Tipping & Lawdern pistols are the same as the smaller size. The "Roman Nose" profile seems to be exclusive in this model. It has been estimated that only about 250 of the larger size were made but very few of them had the profile. All of them seem to be the late type with the exposed barrel release bar and an interlock between the bar and the hammer. About 75% of these have the large hard rubber grips. The burl walnut veneer case is lined with blue baize. It has one compartment for the pistol, one for the 5-7/8 inch iron cleaning rod and a wood covered one for cartridges. The brass shield shape initial plate on top of the case is missing.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% bright blue mixed with freckles of light surface rust on the barrels, 99% silver on frame. The grips are excellent. Mechanically fine. PICTURED Sharps, p. 160 PROVENANCE Don Sharp
