Description:

According to a letter from the Cody Firearms Museum, this rifle arrived at the warehouse on June 30, 1899 and was shipped two months later. Octagon barrel with a dovetail front sight and two leaf folding rear sight, scroll engraving at the muzzle and breech, a single gold band at the muzzle and two at the breech along with the standard caliber, address, and nickel steel markings. The rifle has " upgraded" in the 20th century with receiver, lever, and hammer having been engraved and gold inlaid with a gold moose on the right side of the receiver and a pair of gold deer on the left. Fancy checkered walnut pistol grip stock and forearm with an engraved tip, hard rubber grip cap and a smooth steel buttplate with scrollwork on top. The letter verifies the takedown configuration with fancy checkered stock and pistol grip but gives the caliber as 38/55. The sights were not mentioned and can be presumed to be replacements.1

Rating Definition:

Professionally refinished and engraved with most of the current blue finish. A smooth brown and gray patina is forming on the magazine. A few small areas and thin streaks of gray on the barrel and few tiny areas of spotting on the receiver along with some light handling marks overall. The stock is in very good condition, with some minor scratches, dents, and an excellent grain pattern. The action is excellent.
