Description:

This rifle is one of the most popular lever actions that Winchester ever produced. This is the "Gun that Won the West". Manufactured in 1893, this is a Third Model with the dust cover operating on the central guide rail integrally machined as part of the receiver. Fixed blade front with adjustable rear buckhorn sights. The top of the barrel is marked "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. / --KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29, 1866, OCTOBER 16, 1860--". "38 W.C.F." is marked on the barrel at the action and "38 CAL" on the brass carrier. Serial number on the lower tang and model designation on the upper tang. Casehardened lever and hammer. Plain forearm with a steel forend cap and straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate. The original four piece cleaning rod in the butt compartment.

Rating Definition:

Very good. All metal parts have a smooth dark mottled patina with strong traces of the original blue finish on the receiver in protected areas. The hammer and lever show some of the original casehardening pattern. The wood has had an extra coat of varnish applied and remains in very good condition with overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches associated with a gun of this age. The action needs work; the hammer does not hold half or full cock. All the markings are clear.
