Winchester produced only about 25,000 Model 53s from 1924 to 1932. This model was in fact a slightly more modern version of the Model 1892. It was available in only one style, the Sporting Rifle with a 22 inch tapered barrel. Manufactured the first year of production, 1924, it features a Lyman blade sight and adjustable rear sight, half magazine, plain forearm with a metal tip and straight grip stock with a steel serrated flat buttplate. The barrel is marked with the two line address on the right rear, model, trade mark, caliber designation and "NICKEL STEEL" on the left side. Standard upper tang three line marking.

Partially refinished. Retains approximately 80% partially original blue on the barrel, bolt and lever, almost all of the blue finish on the loading gate. The receiver has a smooth brownish patina and the buttplate has a brownish patina with some light pitting. The forend cap has a smooth brown patina with strong traces of original blue finish. The wood has been revarnished and shows a few minor overall scattered dents and dings. All markings are clear. The action is fine
