Manufactured as Smiths & Wesson's first production target revolver, the S&W Number Three Target was the premier 19th century target handgun. Fitted with 6.5-inch barrel and chambered for the .38-44 S&W cartridge. The revolver has a high polish blue finish with casehardened hammer, trigger and trigger guard. Grips are brown checkered hard rubber with the S&W monogram at the top. The pistol has a pinned blade front sight. The rear sight is adjustable and is mounted on the barrel catch. The barrel rib is marked in one line "+SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A+". The serial number is located on the butt, rear face of the cylinder and the barrel catch.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain approximately 75% of the original high polish blue finish with light wear along the high points. The frame retains approximately 70% of the finish with a smooth brown patina beginning to form and a smooth silver patina on the grip straps. The hammer retains about 50% of the case color and the trigger and trigger guard exhibit slight traces of casecolor in the protected areas mixed with a smooth silver patina. The grips are fine with some light handling marks.
