Description:

A scarce Merwin, Hulbert & Co., Fourth Model, large frame, double action revolver with rarely encountered blue finish and ivory, bird's head grips. The revolver has a ribbed, 3 1/4-inch barrel with top strap and folding hammer spur. The hammer, trigger guard, trigger and barrel latch have a casehardened finish. The top of the barrel rib is roll-stamped with the Merwin, Hulbert & Co., New York address and "77-83" patent dates in two lines. The left side of the barrel has the Hopkins & Allen address. The left side of the frame is marked: "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER" in two lines followed by "1873". All of the serial numbers match; the serial number, "9741" is located on the right side of the frame below the grip, on the rear face of the cylinder and on the inside of the barrel lug.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver appears to be unfired and retains over 95% of the original, high polish blue finish. Wear is limited to minor storage marks. The bore is perfect. The casehardened hammer, trigger guard and trigger have 98% or more of the casehardened finish with vivid case colors. The ivory grips have a mellow patina and are in excellent condition; wear is limited to two tiny chips in the upper left grip. All markings are crisp and the action functions perfectly. An excellent and scarce blued example of a Merwin, Hulbert & Co., Fourth Model DA revolver.
