The revolver has the 3rd Model round barrel with top strap and full fluted cylinder. It has the "Pocket Army" bird's head butt with pointed extension and lanyard hole. The revolver is almost fully engraved with the distinctive punch dot style associated with Merwin. The left rear of the frame also features a bird and nest in a tree. The revolver is nickel plated with a casehardened hammer. The left side of the barrel is marked with the two line Hopkins and Allen address / patent dates, "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER 1873" is located on the left side of the frame below the cylinder and "MERWIN HULBERT & CO. N.Y. POCKET ARMY" is stamped on the right side of the frame below the cylinder. The serial number is stamped on the right side of the grip extension. The revolver is fitted with two piece pearl grips with carved Mexican eagle and snake.

Fine. The revolver retains approximately 60% of the original thin nickel finish mixed with gray patina and scattered flaking, which is more pronounced on the edges of the engraving. There is scattered light to moderate pitting on the surface. The grips are good with handling marks and the left grip is cracked. The action needs work, the hammer does not hold the cock position.
