Description:

1) Measuring 24 inches in diameter and 2 1/2 inches deep, this is a round concave advertising sign for La Azora Cigars. The border is painted in gold, and the center is filled with a lithographed scene of a boat traveling down a river. Four women are seated in the boat, one leaning over the side toward a water lily, while a man in a turban is seated in the back, hands on the oars. Faint reflections of the occupants are visible in the water and a palm and reed lined shore is visible through fog in the background. In gold bordered red text is "La Azora" above the scene and "THE CIGAR OF CIGARS" below, with "LILIENFELD BROS. & CO. MAKERS CHICAGO, ILL. " below, gold with black borders and "CHAS. W. SHONK CO. LITHO. CHICAGO. NO. C 1096." at the very bottom. Shonk was active from 1890 through the 1920s. On the back is a paper property label for Lilienfeld. 2) These boards were used as a guide to cut the bars that tobacco was shipped in into the standard plugs in which they were sold by the retailers. This board was made in the shape of a standard bar and decorated like one with the stars, star tags and faux painted "tobacco" surface. Comes with two unused star cut plug bags. These paper bags were shaped so they would take a plug cut to measure according to the board.

Rating Definition:

1) Very good, some light handling marks and flaking visible on the surface, with a series of dark rings below the top markings. Paper label shows some tearing and darkening. 2) Fine with edge wear and slight surface wear on the top, stronger on the bottom.
