This is a fine Napoleon Bonaparte white marble bust sculpted by Pietro Fumeo (1831-1898). Pietro Fumeo was an active Italian sculptor in the 19th century and an example of his work is the round portrait relif of Casare Cantu, along with the monumental staircase of the Palazzo de Senato in Milan, Italy. This bust depicts a young Napoleon Bonaparte and is finely sculpted from a single piece of white marble. The facial features and clubbed hair are sculpted with master artisan skills that give the bust a life-like appearance. The superb craftsmanship continues on coat that features finely carved buttons and a floral pattern, with much detail given to the coat collar as well as the shirt collar. The bust measures approximately 28" tall, 23" long and 13" wide and rests on a 6" tall, 11" long and 9" wide octagon white marble base. The base has a floral and diamond pattern with a raised decorative "N" on the front. A shipping label is adhered to the base. The back of the bust is marked "Pietro Fumeo fece / Milano 1867". A similar Fumeo sculpted Napoleon bust can be see at the Civic Museum of the Renaissance of Bologna.
