Manufactured from 1865 to 1866. The top of the receiver is marked "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860". The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "M. 1865" and "W" on the left side. Standard ladder type military rear sight, sling swivel on the barrel band and butt and saddle ring bar with ring mounted on the left side. Buttstock is marked with two cartouches on the left side (at a 90 degree angle) and "E.M.W." stamped near the buttplate heel.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains approximately 90% faded original blue with the beginnings of a brown patina strongest near the muzzle and a patch of mild pitting. The barrel band has a smooth gray patina with traces of blue. The frame, hammer, lever and buttplate retain about half of the original case colors strongest on the buttplate. The top of the wrist has been drilled and plugged for a sight mount (a couple hairline cracks radiate from the holes), otherwise the near excellent wood has some minor dings and scratches with a couple gouges mostly on the underside of the buttstock. Cartouches are excellent. Mechanically excellent.
