Civil War Savage Revolving Fire-Arms Co., Navy Model Revolver

Unique, .36 caliber, single action revolver manufactured by the Savage Revolving Fire-Arms Co., of Middletown, Connecticut. The revolver features a distinctive, heart-shaped, trigger guard with finger lever to rotate the six-shot cylinder. The revolver has a hinged loading lever and two-piece walnut grips. The top of the frame is roll-stamped: "SAVAGE R.F.A. CO./H.S. NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17, 1856/JAN. 18, 1859, MAY 15, 1860." in three lines. "C" and "H" government sub-inspection marks are visible on most components. The Ordnance Department purchased 11,984 of the total production of approximately 20,000 Savage revolvers for issue during the Civil War.

ConditionFair. The revolver has been cleaned and has a gray patina with moderate-heavy pitting. The frame markings are partially legible. The two-piece grips have been heavily sanded and are in fair condition. The revolver action is loose but functional. A representative example of a unique but widely issued Civil War revolver.
