Sharps New Model 1863 Percussion Civil War Carbine

The carbine has the R.S. Lawrence patent rear sight and pellet primer and a sling bar and ring is fitted to the left side of the stock and receiver. The barrel is roll-stamped with the three-line Sharps address ahead of the rear sight and the model designation behind it. The sides of the receiver have the standard Sharps and Lawrence patent markings. The serial number is stamped on the upper tang and "T.W.R." sub-inspector initials are stamped on the base of the sling bar and barrel. The buttstock has a patch box on the left side.

ConditionAbout good. All metal surfaces are a dark brown patina with some scattered dark spots and some patches of varnish. There is some minor pitting contained to the frame. There are large pieces missing from the forearm, otherwise the sanded and revarnished wood has some minor gouges and dings. The wrist has been repaired during period of usage. The markings are weak, but generally legible. Mechanically fine.
