This is an example of a U.S. Remington Model 1903-A4 Sniper Rifle that was overhauled by Rock Island Arsenal and sold in the mid-1960s by the Director of Civilian Marksmanship. The rifle is complete with the original Redfield telescopic sight base and has the distinctive milled bolt handle and barrel with no front sight. The rifle has all the correct stamped Model 1903-A3 components. The barrel, receiver, bolt and furniture have been arsenal refinished during over-haul and have a uniform, gray-green parkerized finish. The rifle has the correct, pistol grip "C" stock. The stock has been sanded and re-finished. The left side of the butt is stamped with a crisp, "RIA/EB" overhaul inspection mark in a box. An encircled, "P" proof mark is stamped on the inside of the pistol grip. The receiver has the distinctive M9013-A4 markings that consist of "U.S./REMINGTON/MODEL 03-A3" on the left side of the telescopic sight base and the serial number, "3419153" to the right side of the base. The barrel is marked: "RA/ Ordnance Shell and Flame/8-43". The distinctive Remington sub-inspection marks are stamped on the underside of the stock in front of the trigger guard. The rifle, correctly, is not fitted with a telescopic sight; the sights were removed by the Army prior to sale by the DCM. The rifle is complete with the original cardboard shipping carton. The carton has a Rock Island Arsenal return address and a Parma, Ohio shipping address. The front of the carton is stenciled with the rifle stock number, nomenclature, and serial number. The carton contains the original shipping envelope.

Near mint as arsenal overhauled. The rifle appears to be unfired and remains in the same condition as when it was shipped from Rock Island Arsenal in the mid-1960s. The parkerized finish shows only very minimal storage wear. The stock has not been oiled since overhaul and is in excellent condition with virtually no wear. The overhaul markings on the stock are extremely crisp. The carton is in good condition with legible markings. This is a scarce example of a desirable Remington M1903-A4 Sniper Rifle (less scope) that appears to be unfired and nearly untouched since it was overhauled at RIA in the 1950s.
