Description:

The result of a John Browning design, the Model 1895 was the first lever action rifle equipped with a box magazine. This carbine was manufactured in early 1915 and features a pinned replacement Marble's blade front sight and the rear sight has been removed and a Marble filled block has been installed. Contoured side frame with the saddle ring and stud mounted on the left side. The left side of the receiver is marked with the standard two line address/patent dates and the top of the receiver ring is marked ".30 / ARMY". The left rear of the barrel is marked "30 ARMY" and the Winchester oval proof is stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the three line model, maker, trademark marking and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight slot has been drilled and tapped for scope/rear sight mounting. Mounted with a smooth forearm with grasping groove and secured by a barrel band and straight grip stock with a steel carbine buttplate with compartment.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period modified, (receiver tapped) missing the handguard and rear sight. The rifle retains approximately 30-40% original thinning blue finish with some smooth gray on the forward portion of the barrel, bottom of the magazine and most of the lever as well as some scattered areas of smooth plum/brown patina on the frame, magazine, and lever. There are some tool marks in the area of the rear sight slot and the filler was crudely installed. The buttplate has a smooth mottled patina. The wood is good. The stock has a minor shallow gouge on the right rear and a few minor dents and scratches. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is fine.
