Description:

This is a early WWII standard K98 rifle that was modified and fitted with the long eye relief ZF 41 scope. These scopes were intended to be a "Shooters Aid" to improve hit probability. The chamber is marked on top with "ar/41", and the receiver sidewall is marked "Mod 98". The "ar" code signifying it was made at the Mauser-Werkes at Borsigwalde in Berlin, which is a fairly desirable code 98K rifle with the ZF41 scope, especially since it has the early "flat roller" base. The right side and top of the receiver is stamped with the "Eagle 26" proof and the left side of receiver and barrel have the German eagle firing proof. The rear sight base is numbered to the rifle, the trigger guard, floor plate, and barrel bands are all milled. The stock is a late war laminated version with a stamped/cupped buttplate. The left side of the stock has some faint indiscernible proofs and the right side has a large Eagle Waffenamt proof. The scope itself is an early version that is marked "dow, +, Z.F.40-41/1" and the mount is a standard production (beveled roller) version marked "duv/ eagle/ 214" on the rear leg. The scope has an unmarked front and rear sunshade. The rifle is complete with an original leather sling, a cleaning rod and front sight cover.

Rating Definition:

Very good with traces of the faded blue finish on the metal surfaces with wear and blue loss on the front barrel band, trigger guard and floor plate. The stock and handguard are both in excellent minor handling marks overall with an old hand rubber finish in some area with an age crack showing on the right side by the take down washer. The scope and mount have 98% of the original wartime blue finish and the optics are good. A nice example of a early war "ar" code sniper rifle.
