Description:

This is an exceptional example of a World War II Type 2 Japanese takedown "Paratrooper" rifle. These rifles were based on the Type 99 rifle series and were designed to have a removable barrel so that they could be stored in a canvas parachutist's jump bag (not included) for use by Paratroopers. These rifles were manufactured at the Toriimatsu factory under Nagoya Arsenal control. The top of the receiver has the Chrysanthemum (which is intact) and Kanji markings for "2/ Rifle". The left side of the receiver is marked with the assembly number, serial number and the Nagoya arsenal "fighting fish" factory mark. It has the later production tangent rear sight graduated to 1500 meters with the thin anti-aircraft wings, peep sight and an inverted "V" front with guards. It has the two-piece stock with the cupped buttplate, side mounted sling swivels and a drain hole in front of the trigger guard. The front barrel band is the two screw model and the rear is the later plain slotted pattern. The takedown hardware is numbered "720" on the side plates and the bolt extractor and cocking knob match the rifle. The bolt is the correct plum shaped version. It has the late war hardwood stock with the drain hole in front of the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus overall with 98% plus of the crisp original blue finish remaining with light wear on the edge and high spots overall. The stock and handguards are excellent with normal handling marks on the sides of the stock and forend overall. An exceptional example of a Japanese paratrooper rifle.
