Description:

The "General Ulysses S. Grant" was done by Frederick Volck (German/ Confederate-American 1833-1891). Volck executed the wonderful bronze bust of President Ulysses Grant in 1869. The bust was done in the attire of General Grant when he was commander of all the Union forces in the Civil War. General Robert E. Lee & the State of Virginia were grateful to Grant as Grant treated Lee with all due respects at the Surrender at Appomattox. It is recorded in Grant's diary that Lee visited Grant while he was President in the White House and presented Grant with this bronze bust. A similar bronze was also done by Volck of General Lee. The dimensions of the bronze are: height 18 inches, width 8 inches and length 12 inches. Weight is 50 pounds. Signed and dated on the back, Frederick Volck Richmond 1869. Refinished bronze in excellent condition.
