Description:

Remington produced approximately 7000 Model 1861 Navy revolvers (a.k.a. Old Model Navy) in 1862. The top barrel flat is marked "PATENTED DEC. 17, 1861 / MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTON ILION, N.Y.". It has the six-shot round cylinder, 7 3/8 inch octagon barrel, German silver cone front sight with grooved top strap rear sight, brass trigger guard, and walnut grips. This revolver has the early production frame with the barrel threads concealed at the breech. Small "W" inspector marks are present on the left side of the barrel and frame, with an additional "W" on the cylinder. Matching serial number on barrel and frame. The left grip panel is stamped with a script boxed "CGC" cartouche. This is the same inspector as on the martially inspected Henry lever action rifles!

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and loading lever retain 40% of the original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The cylinder also retains 40% of the bright original blue with the balance a smooth brown patina with a strong cylinder drag line and some fine pin prick pitting. The frame has a smooth brown-gray patina with traces of blue in the protected areas. The brass trigger guard is fine. The grips are very fine with a few dings on the bottom edges and the letter "H" hand inscribed on the bottom of the left panel, along with some minor dings and scratches (mostly on the bottoms). The boxed "CGC" cartouche is excellent and totally original. One does not have the opportunity to obtain one of these highly sought after martial Remington revolver very often!
