Civil War U.S. Springfield Model 1863 Rifled Musket

This Model 1863 Type II rifled musket has a blade front sight/bayonet lug and three leaf rear sight on a barrel marked with the "V P eagle head" proofs at the breech (left side). The lock plate is dated 1864 and has the eagle and shield motif next to "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD". The eagle motif is repeated on the bolster. The upper tang has no visible date. The three barrel bands are stamped "U" and "US" on the buttplate tang. The barrel bands are secured by springs. Straight grip stock with has two very faint cartouches. It has the tulip head type ramrod and leather sling.

ConditionVery good. The barrel, bands, and trigger guard have a smooth brown patina. There is some minor flash pitting, with some pin point pitting on the trigger guard. The lock and hammer retain some heavy amounts of silvered out case colors. The revarnished stock is fine with exception of a scratch between the front and center barrel bands on the right side (possibly from removing the barrel band), along with some minor dings and scratches and a few minor pressure dents. The sling is good.
