The left side of the receiver is marked "J.M. MARLIN, NEW-HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. / BALLARD's. PATENT. NOV. 5, 1861" and the serial number is marked on the front underside of the frame. Straight grip action with double set triggers, small loop lever and plugged tang sight holes. The barrel was finished blue and the frame, lever and buttplate casehardened. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with steel crescent buttplate.
