Description:

Believed by some experts to be an exhibition knife produced by Rodgers & Sons circa 1870-1890. Blade is 13" long, with a 8 3/8" long edge and a clip point, with decorative etching reading "V crown R / JOSEPH RODGERS & SONS / CUTLERS TO HER MAJESTY" over Rodgers trademarks on one side and "I Cut My Way" on the reverse. Crossguard and grips are both German silver, with high relief ornate floral leaf patterns on each side of the grip, featuring a flying dragon at the blade end, transitioning to floral vines and ending with geometric patterns at the opposite end. Complete in a Moroccan leather covered case with gold gilt borders and a French fitted, velveteen and satin lined interior with royal blue rope border.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with some minor staining and spotting on the blade, showing a bright high-polish finish and the majority of the slightly frosted etched decoration. Grips are excellent, with an aged patina. The original Moroccan leather covered case is fine with minor edge wear, some wear and staining of the interior and small losses and lightening of the gold borders.
