The pistol has the rounded butt and lacks the slide stop and lanyard loop on the left side of the frame, all features that characterizes the Model 1902 Sporting Pistol. The slide has a rounded rear sight and grip serrations on the front, with the two block patent dates and address marking followed by the Rampant Colt on the left side and the two line caliber marking on the right. The serial number is located on the left side of the frame, the Colt "VP" proofmark is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow and a "K" inspector's mark is stamped on the right side. The 7-shot magazine is fully blued and is not marked. The Colt factory letter that accompanies the pistol confirms the serial number, caliber, and barrel length with the type of stocks not listed and the finish listed as blue. The letter states that the pistol was one of four pistols shipped to Von Lengerke & Antoine in Chicago on May 9, 1907.
