Colt Model 1902 Sporting Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory Letter

The pistol has the blue Colt commercial finish with casehardened rounded hammer and fitted with checkered black hard rubber grips decorated with "COLT" in a ribbon at the top and the circled Rampant Colt in the center. The pistol has the rounded butt and lacks the slide stop and lanyard loop on the left side of the frame, all features that characterizes the Model 1902 Sporting Pistol. The slide has a rounded rear sight and grip serrations on the front, with the two block patent dates and address marking followed by the Rampant Colt on the left side and the two line caliber marking on the right. The serial number is located on the left side of the frame, the Colt "VP" proofmark is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow and a "K" inspector's mark is stamped on the right side. The 7-shot magazine is fully blued and is not marked. The Colt factory letter that accompanies the pistol confirms the serial number, caliber, and barrel length with the type of stocks not listed and the finish listed as blue. The letter states that the pistol was one of four pistols shipped to Von Lengerke & Antoine in Chicago on May 9, 1907.

ConditionExcellent as factory refurbished. The pistol retains 98% of the later production factory blue finish. The slide has some edge wear on the muzzle and right side and several very minor scratches on the left side. There is some finish loss on the lower portion of the rear grip strap and some minor handling marks on the front of the grip. The hammer has all of the vivid case colors. The grips are in excellent condition and exhibit minimal handling wear. The magazine has about 95% of the original blue finish. Markings are clear.
