Description:

38 1/2" wide and 27 1/2" tall, white cloth construction with black printed text and multi-colored cloth logos. One side is marked for the 570th Bomb Squadron, with the squadron emblem of a jester's head backed by four aces, and the other is marked for the 390th Bomb Group, with an emblem of three bombers flying over a castle set in a shield. Arriving in Britain in 1943, the 570th earned multiple Distinguished Unit Citations, bombing targets in the Ruhr, the Messerschmidt production line responsible for the Me 262 jet fighter, and other strategic targets, as well as interdiction and support missions for the Normandy Landing, Operation Cobra, the Battle of the Bulge and Operation Varsity. The unit would be reactivated during the Cold war as the 570th Strategic Missile Squadron, operating Titan II intercontinental ballistic missiles under the direction of the Strategic Air Command. Very good, with mild stains and wear. Provenance: The Putnam Green/Sycamore Collection
