John Wurfflein (1815-1884) was a talented gunmaker working in Philadelphia c. 1844-1864. This plainer grade mid-19th century Philadelphia half-stock rifle is numbered "248" on the right at the breech.

Good with gray and brown patina, mild oxidation and pitting, repaired hammer, partially smoothed checkering, faint cracks in the stock, small mainspring blow out, and general moderate wear. The trigger adjustment screw is absent, but the rifle functions.
