Description:

Measuring 19" x 18", canvas material featuring watercolor/ink art of early American aviation hardware, most prominently a kite balloon, the logo of the 17th Balloon Company in one corner, and a signature "Puttcomb/Dec. 27/1926" in the lower right corner. A narrative inked on the canvas notes it as an artifact salvaged from the first observation balloon operated by the 17th in the Philippines, which broke free from its moorings on Corregidor and crash landed in Manila Bay. Fine overall, with minor creasing/staining of the canvas and good color and detail in the art. Provenance: The Putnam Green/Sycamore Collection.
