Description:

The grouping includes the Air Medal, an instructor patch for the Cal-Aero Flight Academy (a civilian flight school that trained Army Air Force aviators on contract during WWII), a Cal Aero screwback cap pin, aviation-themed pin with U.S. roundel in the center, silver finished ring with Army Air Corps decoration, four aviator's wings (two gold bullion patches, one nickel finished pin, and a gold finished and inscribed pin), a U.S. Army cap badge, a metal ID card for "Ye Anciente and Secret Order of Quiet Birdmen" (a semi-secret, invitation only club for male aviators), a set of bullion embroidered patches for the China-Burma-India theater, and a silver ID bracelet (uninscribed) with CBI themed enamel decoration. Both the pin and the Quiet Birdmen ID are made out to a LeRoy Borgersen; records are limited, but indicate a LeRoy Borgersen as a pilot with the Army Air Force during World War II. The pin is inscribed as being from C.C. Moseley, a decorated WWI aviator who spearheaded an initiative to establish a network of civilian flight schools to prepare Army pilots and mechanics for WWII; Cal-Aero, then the Curtiss-Wright Technical Institute, was part of that program, with Moseley as the pre-war director of the Institute. Good overall. The club badge shows some wear and staining, with mild wear on the remainder. Provenance: The Putnam Green/Sycamore Collection
