Bore Condition: The bore is partially darkened with visible rifling and oxidation/pitting.
Description:

Only approximately 800 of these pistols were manufactured c. 1864-1869. The left side of the barrel inscribed "TO/Charles Hamilton/For Endurance & Pluck/2 A.M. 14th April 1874." The Baltimore Sun on April 25, 1874, reported: "Presentation.- A few days since Mr. Charles Hamilton, proprietor of the new Wavlery Hotel. York road, was presented with a pair of Dahlgren breech-loading pistols, for services rendered to citizens of Waverly and others in Baltimore county, in capturing the chicken thief, Harker. The inscription on each pistol was as follows: 'To Charles Hamilton for endurance and pluck, 2 A. M., 14th April, 1874.' The presentation was made in behalf of the following gentlemen: A. S. Abell, J. Hoen, Joseph Merryman, George McComas, John Biggar, James C. Harrison, Henry R. Wilson, James R. Claridge, C. C. Sadtler, J. W. Langley, C. W. Lentz, J. T. Dillehunt, William Holmes, A. F. Rating Definition:

Good overall with traces of original finish in protected areas, dark patina on the balance, moderate wear, mild pitting, and a small chip in the grip at the heel. Mechanically functions.
