Description:

Produced without sights, with a set of three wide silver bands securing the barrel, each decorated with crosses on the sides, floral patterns, zig zags and border designs, and a pair of proof stamps surrounded, one a horse the other "FER/ NAN/ DEZ". Fernandez is listed on page 22 of European Hand Firearms by Herbert J Jackson under "Gunsmiths of Madrid from 1684 to 1795". (writer has seen Russian pistols of this form, but this one is from Madrid Spain). Smooth lock plate, with a ball trigger, serrated frizzen face, thumbscrew for the hammer jaws and a silver reverse plate decorated similarly to the barrel bands. The stock itself is a fine tiger striped maple, chiefly visible on the underside of the wrist, with the majority of the surface covered by additional silver panels decorated in the same style, with geometric patterns, a silver tipped ramrod, and a silver buttcap with a semi-precious stone hanging from the lanyard ring.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with bright finish, showing mild spotting and pitting, along with some scattered handling marks. The silver panels are very fine, with an aged patina forming overall, excellent dark contrasts, and scattered dings. The stock is fine, with traces of filler material visible around the buttcap and some light dents. The frizzen has been refaced, otherwise mechanically excellent.
