British Tower Marked Percussion Military Pistol Dated 1849

This is an example of a British Tower percussion pistol with a belt hook attached to the left side of the stock. The left rear of the barrel is marked with numerous crown over letter and number proofs, there is a "crown/ B / 8" marked on the belt hook and the lock is marked "crown / VR / TOWER 1849" ahead of the hammer and there is the number "23" at the front of the lock. Brass trigger guard, flat brass stock forend plate, iron swivel ramrod with button tip and stamped "T&C. G", fixed sights and mounted with a full walnut stock with "G.W. ALLEN" stamped on the left flat, a "P/11", the number "2" and an 1866 dated cartouche on the right side of the grip area and a broad arrow over 30 on the left side.

ConditionVery fine. The barrel retains 75% plus of the original brushed military arsenal blue finish with signs of some light cleaning. The lock and hammer retain 70% of the original case colors and the belt hook is a mix of dark blue finish and gray patina. The brass has an aged patina. The stock is also very fine with overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. Clean markings and excellent action.
