Description:

A fantastic example of a very scarce Marlin-Ballard Deluxe Rigby #6 1/2 single shot target rifle with full engraving and double set triggers. Adjustable globe front sight, with a set of three engraved Rigby flat panels on the breech. The receiver is fitted with an elevation adjustable peep sight, double set triggers and a Pacific-type lever, with factory engraving covering 90% of the surface. Each side is scroll engraved around a game scene, with the left side depicting a pair of fleeing elk, one reeling from a shot delivered by a hunter in the wooded background, and the right showing a line of four running bison, two dead center with one partially obscured on either side of the scene. Additionally, a forward-pointing arrow is engraved on top of the chamber, with the Marlin address on the left side ahead of the breechblock. Matching numbers present on the frame, forearm and barrel. Extra fancy grain checkered straight grip Circassian walnut stock, with a horn insert Schnabel tip on the forearm, raised cheekpiece and a Swiss-type silver finished brass buttplate. This exact rifle is pictured and described in the book "More Single Shot Rifles" by James Grant (photocopy of relevant pages included), with the single file bison engraving noted as a unique feature.

Rating Definition:

Professionally restored to near mint condition, with 98% of the blue finish, showing only a few mild handling marks overall. Case colors are bright and vivid, with strongly defined engraving and scenes. Stock is very fine as refinished, with some mild handling marks, a patch of residue on the left side below the cheekpiece, scattered light pressure dents and attractive grain and checkering overall. Mechanically excellent
