Rare "USMC Property" Marked High Standard Supermatic Target Pistol Complete with Original 22 Short Conversion Kit, DCM Transfer Papers Original Shipping Box with Van Orden Markings

This is an excellent example of a very rare late production "USMC PROPERTY" marked, High Standard, model 101 Supermatic target pistol with the scarce, 6 3/4 inch target barrel with integral factory muzzle brake, and the complete 22 Short "Olympic" model conversion kit, spare magazines, shipping box and original DCM sales papers. This pistol has an all blued finish with brown checkered plastic thumb rest target grips. These pistols were produced in very limited numbers from 1954-57 for general target shooting and at the National Matches. Any "USMC" marked High Standard pistol is considered extremely rare and this specific pistol is even more rare in that it was approved for use by "Evaluators Ltd". This company was started by retired Two-Star General Van Orden USMC, in the late 1940s which operated outside the USMC base at Quantico Virginia. They evaluated and sold various commercial weapons directly to the USMC and active duty personal for training and actual duty use. This is the company that developed Winchester Model 70 "Van Orden" Sniper rifles for the USMC as used by Carlos Hathcock, the noted USMC sniper. This pistol is correctly hand-stamped "USMC PROPERTY" on the right side of the frame and the shipping box has a small silver label that is marked; "Ready For Service/EVALUATED/ Evaluators Ltd. Quantico VA.". This pistol was initially sold directly to the USMC for their use and was eventually turned into the US Army when they were designated as the Primary Item Contracting Activity (PICA) for all small arms. It was later sold through the DCM and shipped out of Rock Island Arsenal, which accounts for the DCM sales paper. This pistol has the original DCM sales record that lists the pistol by serial number to include the 22 Short conversion kit. It has the standard High Standard factory makings, on the frame, slide and barrel and is complete with the noted 22 conversion kit, (two spare 22 short magazines), one spare 22 LR magazine, two barrel weights and the original High Standard shipping box.

ConditionExcellent overall with 99% plus of the original blue finish with just minor edge and high spot wear overall. The grips are in excellent condition with no cracks or damage. The 22 Short "Olympic" conversion kit is like new condition with 99% of the original blue finish on the barrel and the original purplish/blue finish on the lightweight aluminum slide. The magazines and accessories are all in excellent condition. The box is good to very good condition overall with the edges and sides taped up with scrapes on top of the box, overall from service use. This is just an excellent example of an all original, complete and matching "USMC PROPERTY" marked target pistol set with DCM papers and accessories.
